Before I made this recipe, I would always feel guilty whenever I drank hot chocolate because it would be packed with sugar, milk, and really high in carbs…

I’ve tried alternatives like low-calorie hot chocolate mixes from the supermarket…and quite honestly, it tasted like shit. A watered-down version of what was already an average tasting hot chocolate with added artificial sweetener. Argh…no thanks. 

So after this tragedy, I was determined to come up with something that it thick, rich & creamy- AND also healthy! After countless trial and error, I’m finally happy with the ratio of ingredients. It’s rich, thick and smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. 

This recipe is dairy-free AND sugar-free, so it won’t spike your insulin levels and make you have a sugar crash. Dairy-free also means you’ll feel light on your feet and not bloated after.

Finally, we don’t have to feel like we’re ‘cheating’ when we’re drinking hot chocolate EVER again. This concoction is so nutritionally dense that you COULD & SHOULD drink it every day. 

And for those of us doing a Ketogenic diet (as I do sometimes), it’ll keep you in Ketosis (fat burning mode) without a problem.

RECIPE

Serves: 1

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp Raw Cacao Powder (high-quality cacao makes a difference in richness & taste)
  • 1/2 tsp Raw Maca Powder
  • 1/3 tsp Psyllium Husk (the secret to getting it thick & creamy!)
  • 2 cups Unsweetened Almond Milk 
  • Natural sweetener of your choice  (I use ¼ tsp of Organic powdered Stevia)
  • 1/5 tsp Salt
  • Hydrolyzed Collagen (*Optional for joint health & weight loss)

 

Instructions:

  1. Heat Almond Milk in the pot
  2. Pour hot milk into a blender
  3. Add all the ingredients
  4. Blend for 5 seconds
  5. Enjoy for breakfast or before bed! (Also, great for a Netflix night in^^)
